With all the preparations done, event organisers are now counting down the days to what has been dubbed Africa’s grandest gathering, the 2012 Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Cape Town is set to offer festivalgoers a city getaway experience they will never forget.
Tasso Evangelinos, the chief operations officer for the Central City Improvement District (CCID), says: “This event has grown by leaps and bounds and we have no doubt that visitors will enjoy a pleasant and hassle-free festival. While we can’t take credit for securing all the excellent artists, the CCID has worked closely with roleplayers within the Central City, including Law Enforcement, to ensure that all safety measures and urban management plans are in place to make this an enjoyable event hosted in our world-class city.”
A full deployment of SAPS, CCID security, metro and traffic police are in place to ensure public safety over the busy festival period.
“We encourage visitors to approach the CCID public safety kiosks or officers around the CBD if they need any assistance or information,” says Evangelinos.
The CCID will be on call 24/7, as is always the case, and the service of a dedicated operations manager is available at all times.
Each year this event allows Cape Town to showcase its Central City to the world and serves as an opportunity for visitors to enjoy all of the attractions that make Cape Town a global tourist destination.
“We encourage visitors to experience all that the Central City has to offer, including Cape Town’s renowned museums and The Company’s Garden. And, of course, there are the Central City’s markets, such as the Earth Fair Food Market at St George’s Mall and the famous Greenmarket Square.”
Greenmarket Square is also the venue for the Community Jazz concert on Wednesday 29 March 2012. “Even though this event is only two days away, the CCID operations team is already working with the City to make sure that all services are up and running, and that public toilets are serviced and manned,” says Evangelinos.
The CBD’s local restaurant owners are excited too, and ready to host all the music lovers over the festival period. Mr Baran, owner of Baran’s restaurant, says: “As one of the restaurants on Greenmarket Square, we anticipate huge crowds on Wednesday evening during the community concert. I look forward to this event as it is the busiest day of the year for my restaurant. We plan to open up the whole restaurant, corner off a VIP area and to spoil our guests with a special menu for the evening. Our fridges are fully stocked and we have ensured that we have more than enough of everything for guests during this week.”
To make travelling even more convenient for those visiting the CBD, the new MyCiTi bus system provides quick, safe and reliable transport services between the airport and the CBD and throughout the inner city.
