Back to work, back to reality?

by CCID

As you get down to business in the new year, remember that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Here are five ways to maintain the holiday spirit in 2017.

1. Have a good early-morning coffee (or a cold drink after work)
Traffic is likely to be the number-one reason you miss sleeping in. But you could do something seemingly counterintuitive to beat those blues. Why not wake up a little earlier than normal and get acquainted with the Central City’s coffee culture before work? Cape Town’s 1.6km² CBD is home to everything from chain retailers such as Vida e Caffè to Haas, where you can get the world’s strongest brew.

For a listing, go to Eat and select "Coffee shop" from the drop-down menu.

At the end of the day, you could linger longer too. There are plenty of places for an after-work drink.

For a listing, go to Play and select "Bar & lounge" from the drop-down menu.

2. Tidy and fix up
It's a good idea to start your year on a clean slate. Quite literally. And getting your life in order will probably require stationery or tools. Organise all that personal paperwork and fix that leaking toilet – it'll make you feel better.

Have a look at Shop for a listing of hardware stores and stationers.

3. Get fit

New year, new year: it's a bit of a cliché by this point. But when you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which trigger positive feelings.

For a selection of CBD gyms, go to Play and select "Sport & fitness" from the drop-down menu.

To find a shop to buy your gear, go to Shop and select "Sporting & outdoor" from the drop-down menu.

4. Plan your next vacation

Eyes on the prize: knowing you have something to look forward to the next time you're on leave is a sure-fire way to stay motivated.

To find a travel agent in the CBD, click Services and select "Tourism & travel" from the drop-down menu.

5. Upgrade your tech companion

Don't get left behind on the information superhighway. If it's time to get a new smartphone or laptop, have a look at options in the CBD. Stay connected and download a few games too.

Go to Shop and select "Electronics, photography & music" from the drop-down menu.
