Welcome to the 12th edition of our monthly mailer. Here’s a look back on the year that was.
First off, to our readers, thanks for helping us make this newsletter a success! The CCID began publishing it in September 2016. Borne out of a desire to find the best way to stay in touch with all our stakeholders, its success has also been evident in its continuing uptake by new subscribers and the pickup of its stories by the media.
Each month, we publish a range of articles – from CCID and industry news to lifestyle content related to living, working and playing in the Cape Town Central City. These currently reach 4 000+ subscribers, growing daily.
To celebrate, we’ve studied the analytics and summarised the most popular stories of the past 12 months.
September 2016
The most-read article in our inaugural edition was, in fact, the introduction to the newsletter by CCID CEO Tasso Evangelinos.
October 2016
Our welcome to three new staff members – Christa Maans, Joe Maganga and Shanien Stemmet – got the most clicks in the first follow-up.
November 2016
It was little surprise that a visual story on Cape Town’s rich culinary history (and where to sample it in the CBD) proved the most popular in November.
December 2016
The holiday edition previewed the 2017 Best of Cape Town Central City guide, a sought-after publication produced for the CCID by New Media Publishing.
January 2017
The most-read article in the first edition of 2017 looked back on Open Streets on Bree and Longmarket streets. Playing outside must have brought back holiday nostalgia!
February 2017
Our sixth newsletter previewed the redevelopment Speaker’s Corner, an East City heritage building that had stood empty for two decades. It featured Rashiq Fataar, director of Future Cape Town.
March 2017
In March 2017, we published our most popular newsletter story of them all. On the Monday prior, the City unveiled the six proposals it had received for the development of the Foreshore Freeway precinct. This article and the videos we uploaded to YouTube of the proposals were huge hits.
April 2017
The latest edition of the CCID’s annual investment guide, The State of Cape Town Central City Report, came out in April. Its introductory newsletter story was the most popular that month.
May 2017
The CCID’s #KeepItClean campaign entered its final stage with an activation that got everyone talking. Our new super-ciggie bin, created by Design Infestation, gave smokers a chance to debate topics by voting with their stompies.
June and August 2017
A pilot project involving CCID-funded traffic wardens on Strand Street was big news in June. And the follow-up interview with CCID manager of Safety & Security Muneeb “Mo” Hendricks in August was just as well read.
July 2017
Affordable accommodation is a hot topic in Cape Town right now. So, it’s no surprise that our July article on creating residential resilience got the clicks. It featured chairperson of the Western Cape Property Development Forum Deon van Zyl’s thoughts on the differences between affordable accommodation and low-cost housing.
