CENTRAL CITY HAPPENINGS: 17 APRIL 2019 TO 15 MAY 2019

by CCID 16 Apr 2019

With a few long weekends coming up there are lots to do in the Central City. Make your bookings now to avoid disappointment.

Handel’s Messiah at City Hall
Composed in 1741, in only 24 days, Handel’s immortal oratorio has secured a place in history as one of the most frequently performed Oratorios of all time. Perhaps best remembered for its exuberant “Hallelujah” chorus, this English oratorio sets liturgical texts that celebrate the prophecy, birth, death, resurrection and glorification of Jesus Christ to glorious Baroque music. Even if you are not religious, the music and voices raised in lyrical celebration are wonderful to hear. Cape Town’s own Brandon Phillips will be conducting this year’s performances. He conducted the choir's Messiah concerts in 2011 and 2013, bringing new energy and pace to the performances, and we look forward to working with him again.
When: 19 & 21 April 2019
Where: Cape Town City Hall

Face For Radio
Teacher-turned-comedian, Dalin Oliver, is struggling to adapt to the concept of adulting. No one warned him about it. His Life Orientation teacher forgot to tell him that he'd have to pay tax, parallel park in on-coming traffic and that data would be this expensive. Friendships and relationships have changed. His friends are getting married and going to Stodels at the weekend while he`s figuring out that Tinder is not that beneficial when you are staying at home with your parents. One day, while playing PokemonGo, he realised that it was time to grow up. (Actually, his mom told him that if he didn`t get off his phone and clean his room, he`d never find a girlfriend.) It was time to get his act together.

It emphasises the unity that music brings us as a nation, given our troubled past. This show includes music from Johnny Clegg, Brenda Fassie, Amanda Strydom, Miriam Makeba, Mango Groove, Taliep Petersen and many more.
